EU Falls Festival 2024: Innovation in Fall Prevention and Active Aging
On April 25 and 26, 2024, Malta hosted the EU Falls Festival, a major event that brought together healthcare professionals and innovators from across Europe to discuss the latest innovations in fall prevention and active aging. This annual conference aims to promote the exchange of knowledge and the adoption of new technologies that can improve the quality of life for the elderly and reduce the incidence of falls, one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality among seniors.
One of the highlights of the festival was the speech by Professor Lorenzo Chiari, President of the DARE Foundation and renowned expert in Aging Engineering at the University of Bologna. In his address titled "Advancing Digital Solutions for Falls & Fractures Prevention: The DARE Initiative in Italy," Chiari presented the innovative digital solutions developed by the DARE Foundation for fall and fracture prevention in Italy.
Contribution of Professor Lorenzo Chiari
Professor Chiari has dedicated his career to fall prevention, a mission he has pursued through coordinating the FARSEEING project and co-founding the European Falls Festival. The FARSEEING project, a significant research initiative, focuses on collecting and analyzing fall data to develop more effective prevention strategies. This work has enabled the identification of risk factors and the implementation of targeted interventions to reduce the incidence of falls among the elderly.
Innovation and Collaboration
Professor Chiari's presentation highlighted the importance of collaboration between healthcare, academia, industry, and policymakers to promote a cultural shift towards the trust and adoption of digital technologies in prevention. The DARE Foundation aims to become the national reference center for digital technologies applied to prevention, creating a community focused on digital prevention through research and innovation.
The EU Falls Festival 2024 once again demonstrated how innovation and collaboration can lead to significant advancements in fall prevention and active aging. The participation of Professor Lorenzo Chiari and the presentation of the DARE initiative highlighted the commitment and progress made in creating innovative digital solutions to address public health challenges.
